About Xanthia

At age 4, Xanthia would hug nearly every tree she passed. She has continued this love for nature and all living things
Her work centers on increasing awareness of environmental issues with younger audiences and supporting equity-driven environmental activism at a policy and grassroots level.  A graduate of Reed College with a degree in political science, Xanthia focused her academic career on Indigenous water rights and sovereignty relating to hazardous waste in Portland’s rivers. As Chair of the Oregon Green New Deal Committee with the Democratic Party of Oregon’s Environmental Caucus she worked to increase an environmental justice lens in the Caucus, coordinate a state-wide listening tour, and pass climate progressive legislation across the state. A recipient of the Evan Rose Award for urban planning and the McGill Lawrence scholarship award for cross-cultural engagement, she hopes to continue actively combining efforts for underserved communities and climate protection through communications. In her free time she enjoys backpacking, tango dancing, rock climbing, circus arts, yoga, and beach laying.
