Make Earth Month Count in 2025

Earth Day and OEC were formed just a year apart (1970 and 1969, respectively), and our collective missions have always been parallel. OEC’s work has proven that strong, lasting environmental protections are possible when we work together. From the nation’s first Bottle Bill to the Clean Fuels Program (which has cut 10M tons of carbon emissions – and counting – from our atmosphere). Just as our movement has progressed, so has Earth Day. It evolved into Earth Month, and the celebration of all that’s beautiful about our planet continues to serve as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect the place we love.

As environmental regulations are rolled back at the federal level, the need for civic engagement has never been more urgent. The challenges we face – climate change, pollution, habitat loss – require bold action. Earth Month is a time to join our neighbors in protecting our planet today, and for generations to come.

This year, Oregonians can make tangible impacts through events like the iNaturalist City Nature Challenge (linked below), where participants contribute to global biodiversity research by simply documenting wildlife in their communities. Park cleanups across the state offer another way to give back, ensuring that Oregon’s natural spaces remain healthy and accessible for all. Many Oregonians are reaching out to state legislators and providing testimony to help keep Oregon moving forward – thank you!

Below is a list of events across Oregon where you can take part in Earth Month, and support the wildlife, land, water, and air that make our state so special. If you live in the Portland area, join us at the Hollywood Theatre on April 12th for a special screening of the film Dark Waters. When we show up for our environment – whether through advocacy, science, or hands-on stewardship – we help shape a future where both people and nature thrive.
