Planned Giving

Clean water, clean air, picturesque landscapes, a healthy future, these are just some pieces of the legacy that Oregon offers to all of us. But there’s no guarantee that these resources will remain. It requires vigilance, persistence and dedication to make sure that the hard-fought progress we’ve made in environmental protections will endure well into the future.

Since 1968, Oregon Environmental Council has worked for sound environmental policies and programs so that our children and future generations can enjoy the same remarkable Oregon for years to come.

Leaving a legacy gift by including Oregon Environmental Council in your will or estate plans honors your commitment to protecting Oregon’s future and can provide savings on capital gains taxes and estate taxes. There are several types of planned gifts to consider. To ensure that your estate plans meet your long-term income and family needs, be sure to consult with your attorney or financial advisor.

If you decide to include Oregon Environmental Council in your estate plans, please let us know. We value the opportunity to express our gratitude in person and would like to invite you to join our Legacy Society.

TYPES OF PLANNED GIFTS

  • Legacy Society

OEC is pleased to recognize the men and women who are supporting the future well-being of OEC and Oregon’s environmental quality through their estate plans. After informing us of your plans, OEC will extend an invitation to join our Legacy Society. As a Legacy Society member, you are invited to special events and activities and will be acknowledged in OEC publications such as the Annual Report.

  • Income for Life

There are other planned giving options that can provide you with payments for the rest of your life, with the remaining funds passing to OEC at the time of your death. These gift options include charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and pooled income fund donations. To learn more about how these options can benefit you, please contact us.

  • Naming OEC in Your Will

Your will affirms, honors, and protects what matters most to you. Through a specific bequest, you can name a particular dollar amount, or through a residuary bequest, you can give all or part of what is remaining after payment of debts, expenses, and specific bequests. If you would like to make such a gift to OEC, your attorney may wish to include language similar to the following:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Oregon Environmental Council, now or formerly at 222 NW Davis Street, Suite 309, Portland, OR 97209, a gift of ($_____ or _____ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate), to be used for its general purposes.”

  • Other Ways to Give

You might also consider naming OEC as a beneficiary in your retirement plan, insurance policy, or bank and investment accounts. Depending on the plan, OEC can be named as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary. You will need the following information:

    Legal Name: Oregon Environmental Council
Address: 222 NW Davis Street, Suite 309, Portland, OR 97209
    Employer Identification Number (EIN): 93-0578714

  • Use your IRA to give back

If you’re over the age of 70 1/2, the IRS may require you to take annual distributions (withdrawals) from your retirement accounts, such as your IRA —a provision known as the required minimum distribution (RMD).

Up to a certain amount, these distributions may be made tax-free when directed to a qualified 501(c)(3) organization, such as Oregon Environmental Council.

Charitable IRA distributions have several tax benefits, some not readily apparent. Talk to your tax professional or legal advisor about using your RMD to make a charitable gift. And thank you!
