Oregon Environmental Council condemns racism in all forms and the terroristic murders of six Asian women that occurred in Atlanta. Throughout the pandemic, the Asian American community has suffered escalating acts of violence and threats that are the direct result of generations of otherism, sexism, classism, racism, and xenophobia in our country. Similar to how the environmental movement has treated all BIPOC communities, we have not been the active ally this crisis demands, and have been silent for too long.
OEC remains steadfast in our commitment to combating racial injustices in our work and we must recognize and address anti-Asian bias and racial intolerance. We stand in solidarity with the Asian and Asian American community, immigrants, and people of color in Oregon and beyond. We cannot move toward a healthy and safe environment without first ensuring that our country is healthy and safe for all people.
