For her son, Luca, Irie supports the Toxic Free Kids Act
Irie Searcy was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She lives here today where she works as an energy home performance advisor.
On July 11, 2014, her son was born. The arrival of Luca changed Irie’s world forever.
“I love that Luca is such a happy baby who brightens my day with his smiles and giggles.”
“Having Luca in my life has changed how I look at the food and products that I bring into my home. I am always conscious of what I am exposing my son to.”
Irie is frustrated that it’s difficult to impossible to know what is contained in the products of Luca’s daily life.
In 2013, manufacturers reported hazardous chemicals in 519 toys, 198 baby products, and more than two thousand clothing and footwear items to Washington officials. These same products, with the same toxic chemicals, are sold here in Oregon without disclosure.
Irie is an advocate for this bill.
“Becoming a mom has helped me realized that it should be very clear what is included in [children’s] products. That’s why I wholeheartedly urge our legislators to pass SB 478, the Toxic Free Kids Act.”
