“From Chicken to Eagle” Reading and Q&A!
November 19 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeJoin us in OEC’s office to celebrate the wonderful book, From Chicken to Eagle! In the authors’ own words:
“Our book is a story of seven women who took a wilderness adventure at a time—1979—when women were starting to test their mettle in society and in the wilderness… The eleven-day journey was a time of laughter, friendship, fear and life-threatening challenge.”
The book is a collection of memoirs from each of the adventurers, who broke ground by securing sponsorships and extensive media coverage for their journey — a rarity for women in the era. We’ll be joined by three of them! Maradel Gale, OEC founder and former president (and the first full-time environmental lobbyist in Salem); Jesse Jean Reeder, former OEC board president; and Saro Hendrickson, a longtime OEC member and advocate in Oregon.
The event will begin with a reading from From Chicken to Eagle, followed by a Q&A session with the panelists. Bring your questions, and look forward to learning more about their legendary adventure, and how it helped pave the way for women in the environmental sphere for generations to come. Be sure to RSVP!
