Climate Claims Center Stage at the Capitol
The 2016 legislative session kicked off to a great start last week with packed hearings for the Healthy Climate (SB 1574) and Clean Electricity & Coal Transition (HB 4036) Bills and a rally/lobby day at the Capitol where 221 Oregonians showcased their support for Oregon’s clean energy future. 221 people – that’s more people than there are breweries in Oregon and more people than there are coal plants in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virgina combined. If our rally/lobby day were a city, it would be the 218th largest in Oregon, just above Lostine and below Waterloo.
Hundreds of voters met one-on-one to discuss climate legislation with 71 of Oregon’s 90 legislators. The day sent a strong, unified message to our legislators: Oregonians want climate action NOW!
