Bend Advocacy Training –find your voice!
- Sign up for our June 13 advocacy workshop in Bend here.
Five years ago, as far as democracy was concerned, I had no voice. I was incredibly passionate about sustainability and conservation, but I wasn’t channeling that energy towards effective change. I didn’t know how to influence policy. I didn’t know that legislators actually wanted to hear from me. I didn’t know how to talk about my concerns with those that needed to hear them, and who needed to hear from me was a whole other mystery altogether. I complained to my sister and husband often – they were a sympathetic audience, mostly – but that wasn’t helping to create systemic change.
Today, helping regular Oregonians engage in passing laws to protect our beautiful, unique state and all those who live here is one of my primary goals and passions. I know who to talk to, how to frame my argument and when to say it. It all started in a climate advocacy workshop 5 years ago. That workshop lit a spark, taught me important skills and started me on a path. Now I work for Oregon Environmental Council with a goal of lighting that spark in others.
The workshop that helped me find my voice was co-sponsored by Oregon Environmental Council, and now you have a chance to participate in a similar workshop in Bend, Oregon on June 13.
Learning about your passions is one of my favorite parts of working in advocacy. Helping you put those passions to work making Oregon a better place to live is just icing on the cake. I can’t wait to meet you at our Advocacy 101 workshop, featuring seasoned activist Rex Burkholder. This workshop will help develop and refine valuable skills for new and seasoned environmental advocates alike—whether you are 16 or 99 years old.
Rex will be covering:
- VOICE: Defining & talking about the issue effectively
- POWER: Who has the power to make change?
- WORKING TOGETHER: Identifying allies and building coalitions
I hope you will join me in furthering the spark and finding your voice!
