Welcome Maria Castañeda-Cervantes, OEC’s newest summer intern!

Maria is OEC’s 2022 summer Marketing and Membership Development Intern through The Contingent’s Emerging Leaders Internship (ELI) program. ELI removes barriers to access by connecting talented students of color with leadership-track, paid internships at top companies throughout the Greater Portland area. OEC has had the honor of hosting a summer ELI intern since the inception of the program back in 2015.

Maria Castañeda-Cervantes

Maria grew up in Oregon and loves exploring different hikes and camping with her family. She is passionate about finding ways to help more people learn about the importance of taking care of the environment so we can continue enjoying our beautiful state. She is currently studying Organizational Communication and Management at George Fox University. Some of the things she is most excited about this summer are having the opportunity to gain knowledge about what goes behind the scenes of running a non-profit organization and working one-on-one with the team to learn more about the fascinating things they are doing around the state.

This summer, Maria will be working on different projects with the marketing and development team. One of the projects she is currently working on is writing a report that evaluates the benefits and downsides of using SMS broadcast texting to connect with our supporters. She is also working on a follower generation campaign that will help gain OEC’s reach to more people across Oregon. Finally, Maria is working with the development team to create a year-long calendar of fun and engaging in-person and virtual events for everyone to join and learn more about OEC!

You can get in touch with Maria at mariac@oeconline.org through August!

For 2017, Oregon Environmental Council is thrilled to welcome four new professionals to our board of directors. From an attorney, to a serial entrepreneur –  to a policy pro and a pediatric specialist – our four new members work across the state (and world) advocating on behalf of all Oregonians. We are so glad they’re a part of the OEC community. Welcome! Chris Hearn
