It's Your Oregon: Noah Andrade
For me the decision to volunteer was rooted in three ideas. I wanted to learn about environmental issues, to connect with people who are passionate about creating positive change in the community, and I wanted to move from thinking and saying to doing.
At the tail of end of a lengthy sabbatical I started volunteering with the OEC in January of this year. After 8 years of living locally and working in high tech I resigned in May of 2005. Many great adventures later, both here and abroad, including 16 months on the Big Island of Hawaii, I found myself back in Portland and in a beautiful relationship. I was eager to connect with a vibrant Community that somehow during my prior experience had eluded me.

Looking back its hard to believe that I was hesitant to volunteer. I had a whole list of concerns. From my aging SUV, to questions about my resume, and ability to add value. Let me assure you that the 'doing' part feels really good. If you have ever considered volunteering I encourage you to take that first step!
